RealGM is here to help summarize all that went down as NFL teams took the field in the weekend before Thanksgiving. We will also calculate each team's Trench Counter*. Pittsburgh 27, Cincinnati 10 Team Trench Counter: Steelers +11.4, Bengals -11.4 The Steelers (8-3) pulled away in the second half against the Bengals (1-9-1) on Thursday night. Ben Roethlisberger went 17-for-30 with 243 yards and a touchdown and added 13 rushing yards and a score while Mewelde Moore and Willie Parker combined to rush for 93 yards on twenty-nine carries in the win. Santonio Holmes led Pittsburgh with 88 receiving yards, and the defense limited Cincinnati to just 208 total yards. Ryan Fitzpatrick went 20-for-37 for 168 yards, one touchdown. and an interception. Cedric Benson, the team?s top rusher by default, rushed sixteen times but managed just 35 yards. The Bengals were without Chad ?Ocho Cinco? Johnson after he was deactivated prior to the game. Cincinnati took a quick 7-0 lead on a 10-yard connection between Glenn Holt and Fitzpatrick in the first, but the Bengals only managed a field goal in the game?s final forty-eight minutes. N.Y. Jets 34, Tennessee 13 Team Trench Counter: Jets +9.8, Titans -9.8 The Jets (8-3) handed the Titans (10-1) their first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a strong performance by Leon Washington. Brett Favre went 25-for-32 with 224 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Thomas Jones had 117 total yards and a score while Washington tallied 82 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. New York limited Tennessee?s stellar rushing attack to only 45 yards on the ground. Kerry Collins was respectable, going 21-for-39 with 243 yards and a touchdown. However, they didn?t dominate on the ground as the Titans had grown accustomed to this season. In addition to their difficulty gaining yardage, Chris Johnson lost a fumble in the team?s first loss since San Diego defeated them 17-6 on Jan. 6. Chicago 27, St. Louis 3 Team Trench Counter: Bears +24.2, Rams -24.2 Rookie Matt Forte led the Bears (6-5) to an important win over the Rams (2-9) at Edwards Jones Stadium. Buffalo 54, Kansas City 31 Team Trench Counter: Bills +4.5, Chiefs -4.5 The Bills (6-5) hung more points on the Chiefs (1-10) than anyone in history on Sunday as they scored 40 points over the second and third quarters. Peterson rushed seventeen times for 80 yards and a touchdown, and Taylor added 25 yards and a score on nine carries. Minnesota got on the board early, just thirteen seconds into the game, thanks to a 27-yard fumble return by Napoleon Harris. David Garrard went 27-for-45 with 317 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for the Jaguars. The Vikings limited Jacksonville?s dynamic rushing tandem, holding Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor to just 24 yards on nine carries. Tampa Bay 38, Detroit 20 Team Trench Counter: Buccaneers +12.7, Lions -12.7 The Lions (0-11) stormed out of the gates to take a 17-0 lead but couldn?t keep the Buccaneers (8-3) off the scoreboard in the second and third quarters en route to yet another loss. Tampa Bay held Detroit to 207 total yards after putting the clamps on the Lions in the second period. Daunte Culpepper went 8-for-20 with 121 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. He was relieved by Drew Stanton, who went 2-for-6 with 13 yards, but was forced back into the game after Stanton suffered a concussion. Kevin Smith ran well, tallying 86 yards on sixteen attempts. Calvin Johnson was the team?s lone offensive star, catching three passes for 66 yards and a touchdown at Ford Field. Dallas 35, San Francisco 22 Team Trench Counter: 49ers +0.8, Cowboys -0.8 Terrell Owens and the Cowboys (7-4) broke out of their offensive slump against the 49ers (3-8) on Sunday. Tony Romo went 23-for-39 with 341 yards and three touchdowns while Marion Barber rushed nineteen times for 59 yards. Owens, who hadn?t topped the 100-yard mark all season, caught seven passes for 213 yards and a touchdown. Romo, who lost a fumble for the team?s only turnover of the afternoon, also connected with Roy Williams three times for 36 yards. Shaun Hill was decent for the 49ers, going 21-for-33 with 303 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Frank Gore struggled, however, rushing for just 26 yards on fourteen attempts. Isaac Bruce was Hill?s main target, recording eight receptions for 125 yards and a score in the loss. San Francisco allowed Dallas to tally 408 total yards while they managed just 304 themselves. Houston 16, Cleveland 6 Team Trench Counter: Texans +9.7, Browns -9.7 The Texans (4-7) won an ugly contest over the Browns (4-7) simply because they made fewer mistakes. Sage Rosenfels went 24-for-32 with 275 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Steve Slaton (73 yards on 21 carries) and Ahman Green (39 yards on 13 attempts) helped Houston control the clock. Braylon Edwards was the only bright spot for Cleveland, recording five receptions for 85 yards. No other receiver had more than 18 yards receiving for the Browns in the loss. Baltimore 36, Philadelphia 7 Team Trench Counter: Ravens +18.6, Eagles -18.6 The Ravens (7-4) defeated the Eagles (5-5-1) in a game that was highlighted by the benching of Donovan McNabb in the second half. Rookie Joe Flacco went 12-for-26 with 183 yards and two touchdowns, while Le?Ron McClain tallied 88 rushing yards and a score on eighteen carries. Mark Clayton led Baltimore in receiving with two catches for 76 yards and a trip to the end zone. The defense feasted on the struggling Eagles, grabbing four interceptions, a fumble and scoring on a 108-yard pick return by Ed Reed. McNabb went 8-for-18 with 59 yards, two interceptions and a fumble in the first half before being replaced by Kevin Kolb, who went 10-for-23 with 73 yards and two picks as well. Brian Westbrook, without a passing game on his side, rushed for just 39 yards on fourteen carries. Rookie DeSean Jackson, who rushed once for 12 yards, caught five passes for 47 yards in the tough loss. The Eagles would have been held scoreless by the Ravens had Quintin Demps not returned a kickoff 100 yards near the end of the second quarter. At the half, when McNabb?s benching, the first of his career, took place the score was 10-7 in favor of Baltimore. Oakland 31, Denver 10 Team Trench Counter: Raiders +12.6, Broncos -12.6 JaMarcus Russell was nearly perfect as the Raiders (3-8) shocked the Broncos (6-5) at Invesco Field. Fargas rushed twenty-four times for 107 yards, while McFadden added 38 yards and two touchdowns on ten rushes. Ashley Lelie appears to have decent chemistry with Russell, as he caught four passes for 92 yards and a score in the win. Jay Cutler struggled mightily, going 16-for-37 with 204 yards and an interception. Peyton Hillis, the fullback turned leading rusher, ran seventeen times for 74 yards and a touchdown, Denver?s only trip to the end zone of the afternoon. Matt Hasselbeck went 12-for-24 with 103 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss. Seattle had a chance to shock Washington, but Hasselbeck threw a pick on first down with 1:28 left on the team?s own 22-yard line. Maurice Morris rushed fourteen times for 103 yards, and added three catches for 10 yards and a touchdown. The Seahawks, who have lost four-straight, are amazingly just a game out of second place in the NFC West. N.Y. Giants 37, Arizona 29 Team Trench Counter: Giants +0, Cardinals -0 The Giants (10-1) continue to defeat formidable opponents, having knocked off the Cardinals (7-4) in Arizona. Eli Manning went 26-for-33 with 240 yards and three touchdowns, even without Plaxico Burress, who left early with a lingering hamstring injury. Derrick Ward ? starting in the place of Brandon Jacobs (knee injury) ? rushed twenty times for 69 yards and a score. Manning spread the ball around nicely, connecting with five different receivers at least four times. Kurt Warner went 32-for-52 with 351 yards, one touchdown, d an interception. Warner did a majority of the team?s offensive damage through the air, but rookie Tim Hightower benefited from numerous red zone touches. Hightower rushed for just 21 yards on eleven carries, but reached the end zone twice. Anquan Boldin had eleven catches for 87 yards and a score; Larry Fitzgerald grabbed five balls for 71 yards; and Steve Breaston had six receptions for 86 yards. Warner, who entered the game as a favorite to be named the league?s MVP, also lost a fumble. Turner scored three of his touchdowns in the fourth quarter while Harry Douglas added a 61-yard punt return in the final fifteen minutes. Douglas also caught four passes for 92 yards in the win. Jake Delhomme broke out of his recent skid, going 21-for-35 with 295 yards and a touchdown and added a 12-yard touchdown run in the fourth. DeAngelo Williams excelled on the ground, rushing nineteen times for 109 yards and a score. Muhsin Muhammad caught four passes for 40 yards and a trip to the end zone while Steve Smith had eight receptions for 168 yards in the loss. LaDainian Tomlinson continued to show signs of a resurgence with 84 yards on twenty-one carries. Chris Chambers led San Diego with six catches for 61 yards. The Chargers are still alive in the AFC playoff picture, as they trail the Broncos by just two games in the AFC West. New Orleans 51, Green Bay 29 Team Trench Counter: Saints +18.3, Packers -18.3 Drew Brees aired it out as the Saints (6-5) thumped the Packers (5-6) on Monday Night Football. Brees went 20-for-26 with 323 yards and four touchdowns, outplaying Aaron Rodgers mightily in Louisiana. Pierre Thomas ran fifteen times for 87 yards and two touchdowns, while Lance Moore once again led New Orleans in receiving with five catches for 115 yards and a pair of scores. Rodgers went 23-for-41 with 248 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. It was the secondary of the Saints, not the hyped unit of the Packers, that played a key role in the game. Ryan Grant carried the ball eighteen times for 67 yards, and Rodgers added 36 rushing yards on eight scrambles. Greg Jennings led Green Bay in receiving, catching eight passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. *Explaining The Trench Counter

T.O. Breaks Out, Cowboys Win

Oct 31, 2014 8:39 AM

Terrell Owens had easily his best game of the 2008 season on Sunday, posting 213 yards and a touchdown reception against the 49ers. The yardage total was the second-highest of his career and the most in the NFL since Philadelphia's Kevin Curtis had 221 yards in September of 2007. The production, along with the 35-22 win, should help ease tensions in the Cowboys' locker room. Owens spent the week complaining about the team's struggling offense.

Hill Accomplishes Feat Untouched By Montana And Young

May 18, 2014 5:17 AM

Shaun Hill had a perfect passer rating of 158.3 in the first half of Sunday's 35-16 win over the Rams, a feat never accomplished by even the Hall of Fame quarterbacks that have worn red and gold, Steve Young and Joe Montana. "I didn't realize that," Hill said. "It might say someone was perfect for a time being but I can promise you, there were some mistakes in there. The important thing is we have to enjoy this win. It's been a long time since we had this feeling."

Romo Returns In Win

Jun 8, 2014 12:32 PM

Chances are you saw a majority of the fourteen games played on Sunday in the NFL?s Week Eleven, but there is no need to worry if you weren?t watching all the action. RealGM is here to help summarize all that went down as NFL teams took the field in the third weekend of November. We will also calculate each team?s Trench Counter*. N.Y. Jets 34, New England 31 (OT) Team Trench Counter: Patriots +4.9, Jets -4.9 Matt Cassel found Randy Moss in the corner of the end zone with just one second left in the fourth quarter to tie the game, but the Jets (7-3) outlasted the Patriots (6-4) in overtime on Jay Feely?s 34-yard field goal. Brett Favre went 26-for-33 with 258 yards and two touchdowns, and Thomas Jones starred with 104 rushing yards and a score. Jerricho Cotchery caught five passes for 87 yards and a touchdown. Leon Washington, who also had 35 total yards and a receiving touchdown, returned a kick 92 yards in the second quarter. Cassel excelled for the Patriots, going 30-for-51 with 400 yards and three touchdowns, including the strike to Moss at the end of regulation. Cassel also rushed for 62 yards. Wes Welker, who continues to be among the NFL?s leaders in receptions, caught seven passes for 108 yards in the loss. New England?s defense, which as struggled at times throughout the season, couldn?t stop New York, who won the toss in overtime, from charging down the field en route to the game-winning field goal. Tampa Bay 19, Minnesota 13 Team Trench Counter: Buccaneers +8.8, Vikings -8.8 The Buccaneers (7-3) scored 13 unanswered points to knock off the Vikings (5-5) at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday. Jeff Garcia went 23-for-30 with 255 yards and Warrick Dunn led the team on the ground with 53 yards on twenty carries. B.J. Askew?s 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter was Tampa Bay?s only touchdown, as Matt Bryant kicked four field goals in the win. Gus Frerotte went 14-for-20 with 138 yards and a touchdown, while Adrian Peterson rushed for 85 yards on ninety carries. Bernard Berrian led the Vikings in receiving with three catches for 46 yards, and Bobby Wade scored the team?s only touchdown on a 4-yard connection with Frerotte in the beginning of the second quarter. After Ryan Longwell hit a 37-yard field goal at the 1:47 mark of the second quarter, Minnesota failed to put any points on the board for the remember of the game. N.Y. Giants 30, Baltimore 10 Team Trench Counter: Giants +11, Ravens -11 The Giants (9-1) used a strong defensive effort to defeat the Ravens (6-4) on Sunday. Eli Manning went 13-for-23 with 153 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Brandon Jacobs had 76 yards and two touchdowns, with a majority of his production coming in the first quarter. Ahmad Bradshaw (96 yards on nine carries) and Derrick Ward (41 yards on 11 carries) joined in on the fun against the stiff Ravens? rushing defense as well. Rookie Joe Flacco went 20-for-33 with 164 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Flacco also led Baltimore in rushing, tallying 57 yards on six carries. Ray Rice, Willis McGahee and Le?Ron McClain combined to rush for just 47 yards on nineteen attempts. Derrick Mason, Flacco?s favorite target, caught seven passes for 82 yards in the loss. Miami 17, Oakland 15 Team Trench Counter: Dolphins +9.6, Raiders -9.6 The Dolphins (6-4) withstood a late rally by the Raiders (2-8) to hold on for a close victory. Chad Pennington went 16-for-22 with 174 yards and Ronnie Brown tallied 101 yards on sixteen carries. Wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr., who caught four passes for 51 yards, also rushed twice for 42 yards and a touchdown. Ricky Williams (49 yards on thirteen attempts) and Patrick Cobbs (23 yards and a score on three rushes) helped Miami dominate on the ground. JaMarcus Russell went 15-for-22 with 156 yards, but Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden only managed 73 yards on twenty carries. Ronald Curry had six receptions for 73 yards in the loss, with Javon Walker officially out for the season because of an ankle injury. The win, Miami?s fourth-straight, moved them into a tie with New England for second place in the competitive AFC East. New Orleans 30, Kansas City 20 Team Trench Counter: Saints +4.7, Chiefs -4.7 The Chiefs (1-9) made things close at the end, but the Saints (5-5) still held on for an important win as the playoff race tightens in the NFC. Drew Brees went 25-for-36 with 266 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Pierre Thomas and Deuce McAllister, handling the rushing duties with Reggie Bush (knee) still out, combined to rush for 106 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Lance Moore, who continues to be the favorite target of Brees, had eight receptions for 102 yards and a score. Tyler Thigpen turned in another respectable performance, going 19-for-39 with two touchdowns and an interception. Larry Johnson, playing for the first time in four weeks, rushed for 67 yards on nineteen carries. Dwayne Bowe, who appears to have developed nice chemistry with Thigpen throwing the ball, caught seven passes for 53 yards and two trips to the end zone. Indianapolis 33, Houston 27 Team Trench Counter: Texans +3.7, Colts -3.7 The Colts (6-4) outlasted the Texans (3-7) on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium for their third-straight win. Peyton Manning went 30-for-46 with 320 yards and two touchdowns. Joseph Addai had perhaps his best game of the season, rushing for 105 yards, catching four passes for 48 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Indianapolis trailed 13-9 at halftime, but exploded offensively in the third and fourth quarters to improve their playoff chances. Sage Rosenfels went 13-for-18 with 192 yards and an interception. Rookie Steve Slaton rushed fourteen times for 156 yards and a touchdown. Ahman Green didn?t gain as many yards (17 on nine attempts), but he reached the end zone twice against the Colts? suspect rushing defense. Rosenfels' interception, Houston?s only turnover of the day, came with less than a minute remaining and ended the Texans? bid at a comeback win. Green Bay 37, Chicago 3 Team Trench Counter: Packers +16.7, Bears -16.7 The Packers (5-5) held the Bears (5-5) in check offensively to move into a tie at the top of the NFC North. Aaron Rodgers attacked Chicago?s secondary, going 23-for-30 with 227 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Ryan Grant continued to emerge from an early-season slump, tallying 145 yards and a touchdown against the Bears usually stifling defense. Rodgers hooked up with nine different receivers, with Greg Jennings (64 yards and a touchdown) leading the way. Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman combined to go 17-for-33 with 159 yards in the loss as the Green Bay defense was aggressive all afternoon long. Rookie Matt Forte had 104 total yards, but wasn?t able to find the end zone as the Bears settled for just a field goal at Lambeau Field. The result, combined with Minnesota's loss to Tampa Bay, leaves the Packers, Bears and Vikings tied atop the division. Philadelphia 13, Cincinnati 13 (OT) Team Trench Counter: Bengals +6.7, Eagles -6.7 The Eagles (5-4-1) and Bengals (1-8-1) played in the NFL?s first tie game since 2002 on Sunday as both offenses were inadequate at Paul Brown Stadium. Donovan McNabb went 28-for-58 with 339 yards, one touchdown and three costly interceptions, while Ryan Fitzpatrick went 29-for-44 with 261 yards and a touchdown in the tie. Brian Westbrook rushed for 60 yards on fourteen carries, while Cedric Benson led Cincinnati with just 42 yards on 23 attempts. T.J. Houshmandzadeh was the lone offensive star of the game, posting twelve receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown. Hank Baskett led Philadelphia in receiving, grabbing just two passes for 74 yards. McNabb, who also lost a fumble, had four turnovers on the afternoon. The Eagles sacked Fitzpatrick eight times, but weren?t able to create the turnovers needed to overcome McNabb?s miscues. Carolina 31, Detroit 22 Team Trench Counter: Panthers +10.2, Lions -10.2 Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams paced the Panthers (8-2) in their win over the Lions (0-10) with a record-setting effort on Sunday. Stewart had 130 yards and a touchdown and Williams added 120 yards and two scores in the victory. Not much was asked of Jake Delhomme, who went 10-for-19 with 98 yards and a touchdown, because of their strong performance on the ground. The Carolina defense also pestered Detroit all game long, forcing four turnovers. Daunte Culpepper went 20-for-35 with 207 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Rookie Kevin Smith rushed for 112 yards on twenty-four carries, and Culpepper added 13 yards and a score. Calvin Johnson, who has excelled this season no matter who is throwing him the ball, had six catches for 65 yards and a touchdown. With six games remaining, the Lions are still winless. Detroit built a ten-point lead early in the game, but the Panthers charged back with 21 points in the second to seize control of the game. Denver 24, Atlanta 20 Team Trench Counter: Broncos +5.6, Falcons -5.6 The Broncos (6-4) kept Matt Ryan and the Falcons (6-4) from the end zone in the final minutes en route to an important midseason victory. Jay Cutler went 19-for-27 with 216 yards and a touchdown, while fullback Peyton Hillis rushed for two touchdowns and 44 yards in the win. As usual, Cutler hooked up with Brandon Marshall the most, for six receptions and 89 yards. Cutler hooked up with Daniel Graham on 9-yard pass with 5:35 left in the fourth quarter to give Denver a 24-20 edge. Ryan went 20-for-33 with 250 yards and an interception. Michael Turner starred for Atlanta with 81 yards and two touchdowns, while Roddy White grabbed five balls for 102 yards through the air. Ryan threw incomplete passes on three of the team?s final four plays, keeping the Falcons from staging a late-game comeback. On 3rd-and-18, White narrowly missed a catch that could have won the game. Ryan followed that up with another incompletion to Michael Jenkins on the opposite side of the end zone. Arizona 26, Seattle 20 Team Trench Counter: Cardinals +11, Seahawks -11 The Cardinals (7-3) held off a late charge by the Seahawks (2-8) to increase their lead in the NFC West. Kurt Warner went 32-for-44 with 395 yards, one touchdown and an interception. JJ Arrington and Tim Hightower combined to rush for 75 yards and a touchdown in the win. Anquan Boldin (thirteen catches for 186 yards) and Larry Fitzgerald (10 catches for 151 yards) were Arizona?s receiving studs. Matt Hasselbeck, starting for the first time in six weeks because of a bad back, went 17-for-29 with one touchdown and three costly interceptions. Seattle couldn?t muster much on the ground, rushing for a total of 43 yards on twenty-two carries. Two fourth quarter rushing touchdowns by T.J. Duckett brought the Seahawks to within striking distance, but Hasselbeck?s third interception ended the team?s chance to upend the favored Cardinals. San Francisco 35, St. Louis 13 Team Trench Counter: 49ers +7.9, Rams -7.9 Shaun Hill and Frank Gore starred for the 49ers (3-7) as they defeated the Rams (2-8) in a battle between two of the NFL?s worst teams. Hill went 15-for-20 with 213 yards and two touchdowns, while Gore rushed eighteen times for 106 yards and a pair of scores in the big victory. Hill, who rushed three times for five yards, also reached the end zone on the ground. San Francisco?s defense, under former Bears linebacker Mike Singletary, stifled the Rams, forcing three turnovers by quarterback Marc Bulger. Bulger went 34-for-53 with 295 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions and a fumble, but Jim Haslett didn?t yank him in favor of Trent Green. Antonio Pittman handled a bulk of the rushing duties, gaining 95 yards on fourteen attempts. The 49ers scored 28 points in the second quarter to put the game out of reach. Pittsburgh 11, San Diego 10 Team Trench Counter: Steelers +3.4, Chargers -3.4 The Steelers (7-3) came back to beat the Chargers (4-6) on Sunday thanks to a strong drive late in the fourth quarter that culminated in Jeff Reed?s game-winning 32-yard field goal. Ben Roethlisberger went 31-for-41 with 308 yards and Willie Parker tallied 115 rushing yards on twenty-five carries for Pittsburgh in the win. Hines Ward was Roethlisberger?s favorite target as light snow fell at Heinz Field. The receiver caught eleven passes for 124 yards. Philip Rivers had his worst game of the season, going 15-for-26 with 159 yards and two interceptions. LaDainian Tomlinson had 57 yards and a touchdown on eighteen carries, and the San Diego defense held the Steelers without a touchdown. However, a safety by linebacker James Harrison in the second quarter proved to be the difference in the game. In addition to the safety, Harrison recorded a sack, an interception and forced a fumble against the Chargers. Tennessee 24, Jacksonville 14 Team Trench Counter: Titans +8.2, Jaguars -8.2 The Jaguars (4-6) rushed out to a 14-3 lead, but the Titans (10-0) methodically took over in the second half to keep their perfect record intact. Kerry Collins went 13-for-23 with 310 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, while Chris Johnson and LenDale White combined to rush for 116 yards on thirty-one carries. Wide receiver Justin Gage had a career day for Tennessee, catching four passes for 147 yards and two scores against the Jaguars. David Garrard struggled, going 13-for-30 with 135 yards and an interception, but Maurice Jones-Drew picked up the slack on offense. Jones-Drew rushed seventeen times for 66 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter to give Jacksonville an early lead. With leading receiver Matt Jones out, the Jaguars spread the ball among a number of receivers. Jones-Drew had the most receptions (3), while Dennis Northcutt led the team in receiving yards (28). Dallas 14, Washington 10 Team Trench Counter: Cowboys +1, Redskins -1 The Cowboys (6-4) improved their playoff chances with a statement win over the Redskins (6-4) in Tony Romo's return on Sunday night. Romo went 19-for-27 with 198 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Marion Barber helped ease Romo back into the offense, rushing twenty-four times for 114 yards and a touchdown. The Dallas defense kept Washington from having a typical offensive day, limiting the home team to just 228 total yards. Jason Campbell went 22-for-34 with 162 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Clinton Portis, playing with a knee injury, rushed fifteen times for 68 yards. Washington's defense kept Romo, who looked rusty, in check, but couldn't do much themselves with the ball in their hands. Chris Cooley was the game's receiving leader, grabbing seven passes for 47 yards. *Explaining The Trench Counter

Giants Knock Off Eagles

Aug 6, 2014 4:27 PM

Chances are you saw a majority of the twelve games played on Sunday in the NFL?s Week Ten, but there is no need to worry if you weren?t watching all the action. RealGM is here to help summarize all that went down as NFL teams took the field in the second weekend of November. We will also calculate each team?s Trench Counter*. Denver 34, Cleveland 30 Team Trench Counter: Broncos +7.2, Browns -7.2 The Denver Broncos (5-4) spoiled the debut of Brady Quinn as the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns (3-6) on Thursday night thanks to a strong performance from Jay Cutler. Cutler went 24-for-42 with 447 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Rookie Ryan Torain rushed twelve times for 68 yards and a score before suffering a season-ending injury to his ACL. Fellow rookie Eddie Royal caught six passes for 164 yards and a touchdown, while Brandon Marshall grabbed six passes for 89 yards and a score in the win. Quinn played well in his first NFL start, going 23-for-35 with 239 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Kellen Winslow, maligned for a majority of the season in Cleveland, had ten catches for 111 yards and both of Quinn?s scoring strikes. Jamal Lewis rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown before laying into his teammates the following morning. The Browns protected Quinn well, keeping the Broncos from sacking him in Ohio. Baltimore 41, Houston 13 Team Trench Counter: Ravens +14.3, Texans -14.3 The Baltimore Ravens (6-3) trounced the Houston Texans (3-6) at Reliant Stadium on Sunday thanks to strong performances from Joe Flacco, Willis McGahee and their defense. Flacco went 15-for-23 with 185 yards and two touchdowns, McGahee rushed twenty-five times for 112 yards and a pair of scores and Baltimore?s defense intercepted Sage Rosenfels four times. Troy Smith came on late in the fourth quarter and threw one pass, a 14-yard touchdown strike to tight end Todd Heap, who caught five passes for 58 yards and two scores. Rosenfels struggled mightily in relief of Matt Schaub, who was out with a knee injury. He went 23-for-38 with 294 yards, a touchdown and the aforementioned four picks. Ryan Moats and Ahman Green combined to rush for 53 yards on eleven carries, while Kevin Walter caught four passes for 85 yards and a touchdown. The Ravens never trailed and pulled away with 22 points in the fourth quarter. N.Y. Jets 47, St. Louis 3 Team Trench Counter: Jets +28.3, Rams -28.3 Thomas Jones had a career day as the New York Jets (6-3) soundly defeated the St. Louis Rams (2-7). Jones rushed twenty-six times for 149 yards and three touchdowns and the Jets? defense recorded two sacks, two interceptions and three forced fumbles. Brett Favre went 14-for-19 with 167 yards and a touchdown as New York dominated on the ground. Rookie tight end Dustin Keller starred as well, catching six passes for 107 yards and a win in the victory. Marc Bulger and Trent Green combined to go 11-for-23 with 135 yards and two interceptions for St. Louis. Kenneth Darby and Antonio Pittman rushed seventeen times for 60 yards in the loss. The Rams recorded just 200 total yards, with the Jets racked up 373 and took advantage of great field positions on a number of their drives. New England 20, Buffalo 10 Team Trench Counter: Patriots +14, Bills -14 Matt Cassel led the New England Patriots (6-3) to a big win over the Buffalo Bills (5-4) on Sunday. Cassel went 23-for-34 with 234 yards and a 13-yard touchdown run in the first quarter that gave New England a lead they never relinquished. BenJarvus Green-Ellis rushed 26 times for 105 yards and a touchdown, while Wes Welker had 10 receptions for 107 yards in the win. The Patriots had just two sacks, but kept pressure on Trent Edwards all afternoon long. Edwards went 13-for-23 with 120 yards, one touchdown and two turnovers. Marshawn Lynch struggled as well, rushing fourteen times for 46 yards in the loss. Rookie receiver James Hardy was the only member of the Bills to reach the end zone, catching a 14-yard pass from Edwards late in the fourth to pull Buffalo to within 10 points. Minnesota 28, Green Bay 27 Team Trench Counter: Vikings +2.2, Packers -2.2 The Minnesota Vikings (5-4) held off the Green Bay Packers (4-5) in a key divisional battle at the Metrodome on Sunday. Adrian Peterson, who rushed for 192 yards and a touchdown, scored on a 29-yard yard with a little more than two minutes left to give the Vikings a lead. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers charged downfield, but Mason Crosby missed a 52-yard field goal as time expired that would have won it for Green Bay. Gus Frerotte went 15-for-28 with 151 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Chester Taylor, who rushed for 29 yards, tallied 84 yards and a score on four catches. Rodgers went 15-for-26 with 142 yards, while Ryan Grant continued to break out of his early-season slump with 75 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Packers scored two touchdowns on defense ? a 59-yard interception return by Nick Collins and a 65-yard punt return by Will Blackmon. Miami 21, Seattle 19 Team Trench Counter: Dolphins -0.6, Seahawks +0.6 The Miami Dolphins (5-4) got a key stop on a two-point conversion attempt by the Seattle Seahawks (2-7) on Sunday afternoon to preserve a victory. Chad Pennington went 22-for-36 with 209 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Ted Ginn Jr. appears to be building great chemistry with Pennington, catching four passes for 67 yards and a touchdown. Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown, enjoying a few plays from the Wildcat formation, combined for 144 yards and a pair of scores. Seneca Wallace was decent, going 21-for-38 with 185 yards and a touchdown, a 3-yard strike to Koren Robinson late in the fourth quarter. Julius Jones rushed sixteen times for 88 yards, but failed to reach the end zone. Jordan Babineaux scored the first points of the game for the Seahawks, returning an interception 35 yards in the second quarter for a score. Miami's win allowed each of the four AFC East teams to finish the afternoon with winning records. Jacksonville 38, Detroit 14 Team Trench Counter: Jaguars +11.1, Lions -11.1 The Jacksonville Jaguars (4-5) ruined Daunte Culpepper?s debut with the Detroit Lions (0-9) as they kept his new team winless in a blowout victory. David Garrard went 18-for-25 with 238 yards and two touchdowns, while Cleo Lemon was 0-for-2 in relief late in the game. Fred Taylor had 80 rushing yards, while Maurice Jones-Drew tallied 70 yards and three touchdowns in the win. All of Jones-Drew?s scores came in the second quarter as Jacksonville pulled away. Culpepper went 5-for-10 with 104 yards and an interception, and Drew Stanton went 6-for-8 with 94 yards and a touchdown in relief of the struggling quarterback. Rookie rusher Kevin Smith had 96 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Calvin Johnson, who appears to gel with whatever quarterback he plays with in Detroit, caught two passes for 92 yards. Only the Rams have allowed more points than the Lions this season. Tennessee 21, Chicago 14 Team Trench Counter: Titans -1.9, Bears +1.9 The Tennessee Titans (9-0) remained undefeated on Sunday after withstanding a tough challenge from the Chicago Bears (5-4). Kerry Collins silenced his critics, going 30-for-41 with 289 yards and two touchdowns for his best aerial performance of the season. LenDale White rushed ten times for 14 yards and a touchdown, while Chris Johnson had just 8 yards on fourteen attempts. The Titans scored 21 straight points to take 21-7 lead midway through the fourth quarter. Rex Grossman played well for Chicago, going 20-for-37 with 173 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Grossman also accounted for the team?s only other touchdown, rushing 1-yard for a score in the fourth. Rookie running back Matt Forte had 72 yards on twenty carries, and caught seven passes for 54 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Atlanta 34, New Orleans 20 Team Trench Counter: Falcons +7, Saints -7 Rookie Matt Ryan remained hot as the Atlanta Falcons (6-3) handed the New Orleans Saints (4-5) a crushing loss on Sunday. Ryan went 16-for-23 with 248 yards and two touchdowns, and Michael Turner added 96 yards and a score on twenty-seven carries. Roddy White, Ryan?s favorite target, caught five passes for 68 yards and a touchdown in the victory. However, it was Atlanta?s defense that led them over New Orleans at the Georgia Dome. Drew Brees went 31-for-58 with 422 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. The Falcons took a 17-6 lead into halftime, forcing Brees to throw the ball for a majority of the second half. Devery Henderson, Pierre Thomas, Deuce McAllister and Aaron Stecker combined to rush for 95 rushing yards on fifteen carries, but the turnovers of Brees cost the Saints. Marques Colston had 140 yards on seven receptions, and Lance Moore caught six passes for 76 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Carolina 17, Oakland 6 Team Trench Counter: Panthers +0.7, Raiders -0.7 The Carolina Panthers (7-2) handed the Oakland Raiders (2-7) yet another defeat thanks to strong performance from DeAngelo Williams. Jake Delhomme went 7-for-27 with 72 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions, but Williams paced the Panthers with 140 yards and a score. The teams combined to punt twenty times at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland. Muhsin Muhammad, who caught 3 passes for 38 yards, was the recipient of Delhomme?s lone touchdown. Andrew Walter, starting for the injured JaMarcus Russell, went 14-for-32 with 143 yards and a pair of interceptions. Justin Fargas, without rookie Darren McFadden in the lineup, rushed twenty-two times for 89 yards. Carolina recorded five sacks, two picks and two forced fumbles. San Diego 20, Kansas City 19 Team Trench Counter: Chargers -2.1, Chiefs +2.1 They didn?t necessarily look good doing it, but the San Diego Chargers (4-5) stopped the Kansas City Chiefs (1-8) on a two-point conversion with less than a minute remaining to escape with a much-needed victory. Philip Rivers went 27-for-36 with 316 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. LaDainian Tomlinson, who still doesn?t look like himself on the field, rushed twenty-two times for 78 yards in the win. The Chargers rallied from a 13-7 halftime deficit, taking a 20-13 lead at the 6:55 mark of fourth period on a connection between Rivers and Antonio Gates. Tyler Thigpen looked terrific, going 27-for-41 with 266 yards and three touchdowns, but had his two-point conversion attempt intercepted on Kansas City?s final drive to hand San Diego the win. Tony Gonzalez caught ten passes for 113 yards and a pair of scores, while Mark Bradley grabbed nine balls for 81 yards and a touchdown. Indianapolis 24, Pittsburgh 20 Team Trench Counter: Colts +5.3, Steelers -5.3 The Indianapolis Colts (5-4) got their second-straight win over an AFC rival on Sunday when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3) at Heinz Field. Peyton Manning went 21-for-40 with 240 yards and three touchdowns, while Joseph Addai tallied 34 yards on twelve carries against the tough Pittsburgh defense. Reggie Wayne had six receptions for 114 yards and a score and Dominic Rhodes caught a 17-yard pass from Manning with 3:04 left in the game to put the Colts ahead for good. Ben Roethlisberger went 30-for-42 with 284 yards and three interceptions. Mewelde Moore, who has filled in for Willie Parker (knee injury) when needed, tallied 57 yards and two touchdowns on twenty-four carries. Hines Ward caught nine passes for 116 yards in the loss, but the Indianapolis defense held the Steelers in check after the second quarter, limiting them to just a field goal in the second half. N.Y. Giants 36, Philadelphia 31 Team Trench Counter: Giants +6.8, Eagles -6.8 The New York Giants (8-1) improved their chances of coming out on top in the NFC East on Sunday night with a big victory over the Philadelphia Eagles (5-4). Eli Manning threw an early interception that led to a quick 7-0 lead for the Eagles, but the Giants rallied and won thanks to some questionable calls by Andy Reid. Manning finished 17-for-31 with 191 yards, two touchdowns and the aforementioned interception. Brandon Jacobs dominated on the ground, tallying 126 yards and two scores. Donovan McNabb went 17-for-36 with 194 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Brian Westbrook struggled on the ground, rushing for 26 yards on thirteen carries, including back-to-back attempts on the team's final drive that failed to get the two yards needed for a first down. The Giants now have a two-game lead over the Redskins for the lead in the division, while the Eagles are tied with the Cowboys for last place. Arizona 29, San Francisco 24 Team Trench Counter: Cardinals +11.7, 49ers -11.7 The Arizona Cardinals (6-3) needed a terrific goal-line stand, but they knocked off the San Francisco 49ers (2-7) on Monday Night Football. Kurt Warner went 32-for-42 with 328 yards and three touchdowns, as the team struggled to get things going on the ground. Steve Breaston caught seven passes for 121 yards, while Anquan Boldin grabbed seven balls for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Shaun Hill was decent as the 49ers' quarterback, going 19-for-40 with 217 yards, two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. Frank Gore had success on the ground, rushing twenty-three times for 99 yards. However, he failed to get into the end zone on the second-to-last play of the game, when a touchdown would have won it for San Francisco. Jason Hill (seven catches for 84 yards) and Josh Morgan (four catches for 54 yards and a touchdown) were Hill's main targets. *Explaining The Trench Counter

Champs Still Atop RealGM's Team Rankings

Aug 6, 2014 8:31 PM

The scoreboard is where games are officially won and lost, but they are largely decided by the team that wins the battles of yards per pass, yards per carry, penalty yards lost, first downs, and turnovers. For this reason, RealGM executive editor Christopher Reina created the following formula called the ?Trench Counter? to look at which teams truly control the game: (2x Yards per pass) + (2x Yards per carry) + (.5 First downs) - (Penalty yards/10) - (2.5 Turnovers) - (Opposing Team's Trench Counter) Click here for more information on the Trench Counter For the 2008 season, our weekly team rankings will be based solely off this formula. 1. New York Giants: 9.9 The Giants may not have the undefeated record that the Titans possess, but they have been more dominant than any other team this season. New York is fifth in yards per game on offense and have allowed the third-fewest yards on defense. 2. Philadelphia Eagles: 9.1 Thanks to three-straight wins, the Eagles have been neck-and-neck with the Giants for first place in these rankings for the better part of the last month. This weekend?s head-to-head battle will give the winner a significant advantage after Week 10. 3. Pittsburgh Steelers: 7.5 Pittsburgh was impressive in their win over Washington on Monday night, but they?ll need their best performance of the season this weekend against Indianapolis if Byron Leftwich is starting at quarterback. 4. Tennessee Titans: 6.0 Many people are waiting for the Titans to lose their first game of the season, and the defensively-minded Bears could have a shot at Soldier Field this Sunday. Tennessee has scored more rushing touchdowns than any other team this season (15) while Chicago is only allowing 81.8 yards per game on the ground. 5. Washington Redskins: 6.0 The Redskins are the third NFC East team in the top-five this week despite their drubbing at the hands of the Steelers this past Monday night. They will rest this weekend in hopes of bouncing back against the Cowboys in Week 11. 6. Atlanta Falcons: 6.0 The Falcons posted the highest Trench Counter of the season (31.3) against the Raiders in Week nine and will look to extend their run against the Saints this Sunday. Atlanta has the league?s top rushing attack (34.5 attempts, 163.4 yards per game). 7. Miami Dolphins: 5.7 Look for the Dolphins to increase their season Trench Counter average this week when they battle the Seahawks in South Beach. 8. Carolina Panthers: 4.3 The Panthers are back to their defensive ways, limiting teams to less than 300 yards per game (294.4) through their first eight contests. That doesn?t bode well for the Raiders, who will host Carolina this weekend. 9. Minnesota Vikings: 4.2 The Vikings cut down the surging Texans in Week 9, giving them a much-needed victory. Minnesota has the sixth-best rushing offense in the NFL but could jump in the rankings with a very motivated, and healthy, Adrian Peterson in the backfield. 10. Baltimore Ravens: 4.1 Joe Flacco continues to impress in Baltimore, who feature a dynamic rushing attack spear-headed by Willis McGahee, Le?Ron McClain, and Ray Rice. 11. Arizona Cardinals: 3.5 The Cardinals are running away with the NFC West through the first half of the season and moved up in the rankings, thanks to a strong +24 Trench Counter against the Rams this past Sunday. 12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 2.6 Tampa Bay got past Kansas City, thanks to some late-game heroics by Jeff Garcia, but it?s their ball-hawking defense (16 turnovers) that has helped carry them to a 6-3 record. 13. Chicago Bears: 2.3 The Bears were almost the first team to fall at the hands of the lowly Lions in Week 9, but they came away with a victory, nonetheless. The fate of Chicago?s season will likely rest in the hands of Rex Grossman with Kyle Orton hobbling around. 14. New York Jets: 1.5 The 5-3 Jets are a scary team in the deep AFC East because they have won three of their last four games despite below-average play from ?savior? Brett Favre. 15. San Diego Chargers: 0.5 The fate of San Diego?s season will rest on the result of their game against Kansas City in Week 10. The Chargers, with perhaps the best quarterback in the NFL?s first half, should roll over the Chiefs. Click For More:

Eagles' TE Celek Sets Record For Receiving

May 29, 2014 11:35 PM

Eagles' tight end Brent Celek set a team record with six catches for 131 yards in the team's win over the Seahawks on Sunday. Celek made his third start of the season in place of L.J. Smith, breaking Keith Jackson's regular season record of 126 receiving yards for a tight end in the process. "Honestly, I was a little bit surprised," Celek said. "Just the way the coverage was working out, I was able to get the ball a little bit. They were playing a lot of Cover-1 and some man-to-man. Donovan (McNabb) was throwing a great ball; the guys were picking up the blitz and allowing me to get open."
